Comeback King White Clinches Canary Wharf Title
19 Mar 2005

Scotland's seventh seed John White fought back from two games down to beat Australia's Anthony Ricketts in a dramatic climax to the ISS Canary Wharf Classic at East Wintergarden in London's Docklands.
While Ricketts reached the final after crushing England's second seed Lee Beachill in straight games in just 34 minutes, White had been held to a five-game marathon by Canadian Jonathon Power in his previous match, before finally ousting the fifth seed in 81 minutes, the event's longest battle.
So when Ricketts raced to a 2/0 lead, it seemed that the game was up for the Scot. But the sport's hardest-hitter of the ball had other ideas - and a change of tactic saw White come back in sensational style to win 4-9 1-9 9-2 9-3 9-1 in 49 minutes.
It was a remarkable finale for the 31-year-old former world No1 who had to overcome a straight games drubbing by Beachill in the first pool round before winning the next two matches to earn a place in the play-offs for the final.
In the earlier third place play-off, Beachill beat Jonathon Power 9-7 9-4 9-6 in 27 minutes.
