White & Ricketts Set Up Classic Final At Canary Wharf

18 Mar 2005

After leading by two games, John White stemmed a mighty comeback by Jonathon Power to beat the Canadian 9-4 9-6 7-9 0-9 9-5 in the first semi-final of the ISS Canary Wharf Classic at East Wintergarden in London's Docklands.

At 81 minutes, the match was the longest in the eight-man event so far - and the second time this year that White, the seventh seed from Scotland, has beaten his Canadian rival in five games.

By contrast, the other semi-final was a brief affair, in which the other unbeaten player in the earlier pool rounds also suffered his first defeat in the event.

Australia's Anthony Ricketts, the eighth seed, was in blistering form as he crushed England's second seed Lee Beachill 9-3 9-7 9-6 in just 34 minutes.
