It's High Five For Teran In Homeland
7 Jul 2008
Mexican squash star Samantha Teran stormed to victory in the Women's Harrow Mexican Open to notch up her fifth Tour title in a row this year in the maiden $16,000 WISPA World Tour event at Silver Squash in Pachuca, Mexico.
The 27-year-old top seed was facing New Zealander Louise Crome, the third seed, for the second time in seven days in a Tour final. And Teran came out firing in the opening game - building up a 7-0 lead before Crome was able to make her mark.
The favourite again had the better start in the second, moving 7-2 up. But the Kiwi started to change her game and settled down, slowing down the pace before moving ahead to game-ball at 8-7.
But Teran fought back to reclaim the advantage and take the game.
And the world No18 from Mexico City maintained the upper hand to clinch the match 9-4, 10-8, 9-2 after 45 minutes.
Now with 12 titles from only 14 appearances in WISPA Tour finals, Teran has extended her final 'success rate' to 86% - putting into the shade her nearest Tour rivals Nicol David, the world No1 from Malaysia at 67%; Dutch star Vanessa Atkinson (61%) and Australian Rachael Grinham (59%).
