Ferreira Forges On In Winnipeg

Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira, the Mexican who reached last month's final of the Saskatoon Boast Open in Canada as a qualifier, continued his giant-killing run in the country in the Bieber Securities Fall Classic when he upset Australian Wade Johnstone in the quarter-finals of this Super Satellite PSA Tour event in Winnipeg.
The 24-year-old from Mexico City, again a qualifier, beat the fourth seed 8-11, 11-10 (4-2), 5-11, 11-3, 11-9 in 63 minutes - and will now face top seed Jan Koukal, the top seed from the Czech Republic, in the semi-finals.
Koukal conquered another Mexican Jose Angel Becerril, the fifth seed, 11-4, 11-8, 4-11, 9-11, 11-8.
Local interest in the last four will be led by Robin Clarke, the No2 seed from Ottawa who beat South African qualifier Regardt Schonborn 11-10 (2-0), 11-7, 11-9.
