Giantkiller Orfi Reaches Squash On Fire Semi To Set Up Sobhy Rematch
25 Feb 2023
Amina Orfi's sensational run at the Squash On Fire Open continued in Washington DC where the 15-year-old wildcard defeated Egyptian compatriot Nada Abbas to advance to a maiden semi-final appearance on the PSA World Tour.
The win also sees the World Junior champion set up a rematch with Sabrina Sobhy, the world No.16 from the USA who is the only player ever to have recorded a Tour victory over the Cairo teenager!
Having already beaten England's Lucy Beecroft and the returning Sivasangari Subramaniam in the PSA World Tour Bronze event, Orfi took on compatriot Nada Abbas, the No.5 seed, in the quarter-finals. The youngster, ranked 65 places lower than Abbas, fell behind after losing the first game, but battled back to win in four to keep her incredible unbeaten run going - the 15-year-old now having won 16 Tour matches in a row.
"I am really happy that I won," Orfi said after her win over the world No.19. "It is the first time playing her and in the beginning, I was bit, not so confident, and my shots weren't going that well. It is my first day on the glass court as well so it was a bit different."
Elsewhere, Egypt's Mohamed ElSherbini got the better of compatriot and No.4 seed Omar Mosaad in a tense clash to reach his first PSA World Tour semi-final in over three years, since making the final of the Motor City Open in 2020.
