Turmel Topples Perry To Make Cincinnati Quarter-Finals

England's Lucy Turmel recorded her first win over higher-ranked compatriot Sarah-Jane Perry, the world No.8, to secure a surprise place in the quarter-finals of the Bahl & Gaynor Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in the USA.
"It's my biggest win so far, it's massive," said Turmel, after her career-first victory over a top 10 player in the PSA World Tour Silver event at Cincinnati Country Club.
"I'm very happy to win, but SJ is a teammate of mine and she has helped myself, Gina [Kennedy] and Jazz [Hutton] a lot," added the world No.34 from Ipswich in Suffolk. "She's very open to advice and texts me when I have good results. I just want to say thanks to SJ for everything she's doing for us.
"We played in a PSL match a couple of years ago. I've watched her a lot though and know her style. I had a very clear game plan today, but it's very hard to stick to it with SJ because she chops and changes her tactics."
In their third Tour meeting in nine days, USA's world No.16 Olivia Clyne also recorded a significant upset when she eliminated compatriot Olivia Fiechter, the No.4 seed who moved into the world top ten this week after winning the biggest title of her career at last week's Detroit Pro Classic.
