ASB Backs Pioneering MSquash SONO Squash Academy
22 Dec 2021
A revolutionary new Squash training academy MSquash SONO, which has just opened in the USA, is backed by the world's leading squash court manufacturer ASB.
MSquash SONO, the brainchild of renowned Australian coach Shaun Moxham and former Belgian international Katline Cauwels, takes squash coaching to a new level - covering every stage of a squash athlete's development, starting at the age of four and going all the way through to Masters squash, with a new important focus on professional squash.
The new centre in Norwalk, Connecticut, complements Moxham and Cauwels' existing hub in Port Chester, New York - further blending MSquash's combination of top-notch courts, unrivalled coaching and revolutionary technology.
The new centre features a four-sided ASB ShowGlassCourt for PSA and national competition, together with five ASB System100Courts from the German worldwide leader in squash court construction.
In addition, there are three Multiball courts for Mixed Reality ball-sport training for players age 4-77. Kids can enjoy learning to play squash, soccer, tennis, padel, basketball and more on interactive courts from MSquash's German tech partner Fun With Balls.
Together the two campuses have a total of 12 courts, plus a growing coaching team with internationally-renowned coaches and in-house physical training and mindset experts.
The goal of the new facility is to provide premium and disruptive services for players of all ages and all levels who want to take their squash game to the next level. Together with the Port Chester campus, MSquash aspires to be a world-class training hub with highly specialized services.
"We want to offer an environment that can provide players with an in-depth and conclusive analysis - think of it as an MRI scan of your game," explained MSquash co-founder Shaun Moxham (pictured above with Cauwels). "Whether the player is local, domestic or international, we will be the facility to come back to continuing to measure and monitor progress a players progress throughout their long term athlete development plan. We offer a holistic approach far beyond hitting a squash ball and our mission is to build well-rounded athletes and champion people.
"We are always driven by 'the next level': The next level we need to take our athletes to, the next generation of training tools, the next generation of coaching practices.
"I cannot wait to see the world of squash play at MSQUASH SONO, as we plan on hosting a multitude of events for all ages and levels of play.
"We have been working for over 30 years now with our tech partners ASB," continued Moxham, who for 11 years coached compatriot David Palmer to world champion and world No.1. "We know they go for nothing but top quality and keep on rethinking their products. The courts play like no other, and our players recognise that.
"I had the pleasure of forming a close relationship with ASB founder Horst Babinsky and in recent times with his son Christof Babinsky. Both men are visionaries and have really shaped some if not all of the most important innovations in squash court construction. For this reason, always looking for innovation, we find ourselves so well-aligned. They do things that no other company has ever done. They prioritize quality over everything else. Those are the values that we share and respect."
"With Fun with Balls, we work on improving interactiveSQUASH and its app on a daily basis, and when we saw the opportunities Multiball offers, we knew we would like to continue being creative with them too."
The 4-sided ASB glass court has enabled MSquash to become a training and competition centre for aspiring and current PSA players who need a training base and PSA tournaments close to home or college. MSquash plans to promote PSA squash by hosting 5-10 PSA tournaments a year, and offering these events to its players as a source of inspiration.
"The owners of MSquash have developed a concept that provides a fully comprehensive training for all levels of play in a brilliant mix of technology and pure coaching experience," added ASB sales manager Till Jonuleit. "Despite the difficult travel situation caused by Covid-19, ASB was able to carry out the installation with a German-American installation crew, providing first grade service and knowhow in order to install the courts on time to meet the client's deadline."
Despite being open only three months, the new facility is being well-received: "The reaction from our known and unknown community is what matters to us," added Katline Cauwels. "The facility and our approach has been extremely well-received and the depth of our approach is noticed immediately and respected.
"The registration of new members is far exceeding our expectations. We work with four different schools, going from 2nd grade programming to a high school program. We are starting new initiatives like corporate leagues for adults and are planning 4-5 PSA tournaments in 2022. Notable successes are without doubt in the works following the footsteps of our Port Chester campus!"
