De Lierre Survives Santa Barbara Marathon

Canada's Shawn De Lierre survived a 99-minute marathon in the opening round of the SAL Santa Barbara Open to set up a quarter-final clash with compatriot and top seed Shahier Razik in the established PSA Tour event in California, USA
In a match featuring three tie-break games, the Montreal-based seventh seed beat Pakistan's Kumail Mehmood 10-11 11-9 11-10 10-11 11-7 in the longest first round match of the day.
Fifth seed Christopher Gordon led local interest in the event with a straight games victory over fellow American Dylan Patterson. The New York-born 19-year-old prevailed 11-6 11-8 11-5 in 38 minutes and now meets Australia's No3 seed Timothy Manning for a place in the last four.
