Alarcon Gets Revenge In Brasilia
24 Sep 2012
Brazilian squash star Rafael Alarcon provided the perfect climax for the inaugural Brasilia Classic International in his country's capital Brasilia when he beat Englishman Eddie Charlton in the final of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 event at the MDO Squash Club.
Both players had reached the final against expectation - Alarcon, the No3 seed from Sao Paulo, ousting New Zealand favourite Martin Knight, and fourth seed Charlton taking out second-seeded Hungarian Mark Krajcsak.
It was only a week ago that Alarcon and Charlton met in the final of the Maringa Park Open, also in Brazil - when the 24-year-old Englishman, ranked 87 in the world, upset home hero Alarcon in one of the best results of his career.
Eager not to disappoint a home crowd for a second time, Alarcon was after revenge: The 35-year-old world No71 took the opening game on a tie-break before dropping the second - but came through strongly in the next two to pull off a popular 13-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-3 title triumph in after 86 minutes.
Alarcon was celebrating his sixth successive appearance in a PSA Tour final - and the victory marked up his 19th career title.
