Samper Celebrates Maiden Tour Success In Ontario

5 Oct 2009

Colombian Bernardo Samper celebrated his long-awaited maiden PSA Tour title success when he beat England's Laurence Delasaux in the final of the Nash Cup, the Super Satellite event in its second year at London Squash Racquets Club in London, in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Samper, the fourth seed from Bogota, made his breakthrough in the semi-finals when he beat Englishman Eddie Charlton, the fifth seed who despatched Czech favourite Jan Koukal in the previous round.

But Delasaux, a 24-year-old from Hull who is making a PSA Tour comeback after an absence for more than two years, reached the final as a qualifier - upsetting second-seeded Canadian Robin Clarke in straight games in the semi-finals.

The Englishman took the first game in the final - but New York-based Samper regained control of the match to beat the outsider 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 in 49 minutes to win his first Tour title after first joining the PSA in 2000.

Final:
[4] Bernardo Samper (COL) bt [Q] Laurence Delasaux (ENG) 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 (49m)
