Mueller & Nassar Win Dutch Junior Open Titles In Amsterdam
14 Jul 2008
Switzerland's Nicolas Mueller and Egypt's Salma Nassar secured the final European Squash Federation Junior Circuit U19 titles of the season with victories in the finals of the Dutch Junior U19 Open Squash Championships at the Frans Otten Stadion in Amsterdam.
It was a highly satisfying conclusion to a glittering run on the ESF Junior circuit for Mueller who claimed the flagship European Junior Championship crown last year and collected his fourth circuit title this season at the Pioneer Junior Open in Germany only last week.
The 18-year-old defending champion from Hirzel, near Zurich, swept through to the Dutch final after only dropping a single game - then faced Henrik Mustonen, the second seed from Finland.
But the Hollola-born 17-year-old was no match for Mueller who surged to a 9-0, 9-3, 9-5 victory to win the title for the second year in a row.
Salma Nassar reached her maiden ESF circuit final after upsetting England's top seed Kimberley Hay 9-5, 6-9, 9-6, 9-4 in the semi-finals.
And the 16-year-old from Cairo went one better in the final when she beat the second seed Olivia Blatchford, from the USA, 9-4, 10-8, 5-9, 9-2 to claim her first European junior trophy.
Men's U19 Final:
