Qualifiers Lezaud & Pett Make Primavera Semis

13 Jun 2008

European qualifiers Joan Lezaud and Olivier Pett secured surprise places in the semi-finals of the Primavera Open after impressive upsets in the quarter-finals of the inaugural Super Satellite PSA Tour squash event in Kecskemet, the eighth largest city in Hungary.

Englishman Pett pulled off the biggest shock by beating second-seeded compatriot Ben Ford. The 19-year-old from Sussex recovered from a game down to upset the experienced Ford 7-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-9 in 43 minutes.

Pett now faces fellow Briton Rob Sutherland, the fourth seed from Wales who defeated Dane Morten W Sorensen 12-10, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6.

Joan Lezaud, a 22-year-old Frenchman from Aix-en-Provence, needed only 27 minutes to overcome seventh-seeded Englishman Neil Hitchens 11-6, 11-5, 11-4.

But the surprise semi-finalist will no doubt have more than his opponent to deal with when he takes on Mark Krajcsak, the event favourite from Hungary.

Krajcsak, the world No52 from Budapest, delighted the local crowd surrounding the all-glass court in the city's main square when he beat English qualifier Neil Cordell 11-3, 11-8, 11-4.
