Allman & Van Brusselen Are Victorious In Vienna

12 Mar 2008

England's Jane Allman and Belgian Sam van Brusselen came away with the titles in the Austrian Junior U19 Open after straight games victories in the finals of the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit event in Vienna.

Top seed Jane Allman came through the round-robin format in the women's event to face second seed Kristyna Vykourilova, from the Czech Republic, in the final.

But the 17-year-old from Epsom in Surrey romped through the match, despatching Vykourilova, also aged 17, 9-4, 9-3, 9-0 to win her first ESF junior title.

The top two seeds in men's event crashed out in the semi-finals - Israeli favourite Ido Avron falling in straight games to Sam van Brusselen, a 3/4 seed, and second-seeded Slovakian Tomas Toth going down in four games to unseeded Hosam Naser, from Egypt.

But Naser's giant-killing run came to a disappointing end in the final when he was forced to retire injured midway through the third game - enabling 17-year-old Van Brusselen to win 9-0, 9-3, 4-3 (ret.) and add the Austrian title to the Flemish Junior U19 Open crown he won on home soil last month.

Men's Final:
[3/4] Sam van Brusselen (BEL) bt Hosam Naser (EGY) 9-0, 9-3, 4-3 ret.

Women's final:
[1] Jane Allman (ENG) bt [2] Kristyna Vykourilova (CZE) 9-4, 9-3, 9-0
