22 Mar 2006
Melanie Jans ended a 17-month trophy drought on the professional squash circuit when she beat Canadian compatriot Carolyn Russell to lift the Women's Grolsch Quebec Open crown in St Laurent, Canada.
The 32-year-old from Vancouver swept into the WISPA World Tour event final after beating unseeded Canadian Marnie Baizley in the semi-finals. Russell, the eighth seed also from Vancouver, made her breakthrough in the quarter-finals when she upset England's top-seeded Suzie Pierrepont.
Russell twice led in the final, but the experienced Jans - the reigning Canadian National champion - fought back to win 4-9, 9-3, 0-9, 9-2, 9-2 in 62 minutes to claim her fifth WISPA title.
Final:
